One Giant Leap for Humankind sculpture at Birmingham New Street Station

We have worked with Network Rail to place an impressive sculpture by Jacob Chandler at Birmingham New Street station. The sculpture was created to commemorate the Commonwealth Games 2022, hosted in Birmingham. The One Giant Leap for Humankind sculpture ties in with an Augmented Reality initiative and is part of the Birmingham 2022 Festival so that people who cannot attend the Commonwealth Games due to disability can still feel part of it.

The creator of the artwork, Jacob Chandler, attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony, as well as the para-athlete Ben Pearson, who was the model and inspiration for the statue. The Mayor of Birmingham, Randall Woodfin, was also in attendance. A toposcope denoting the direction and distance to each Commonwealth country links the sculpture to the Commonwealth.
