CASE STUDY: NHS Blood and Transplant Sign Up New Plasma Donors Through Birmingham New Street Station Promotion
BACKGROUND
- NHS Blood and Transplant manage blood, plasma and platelet donation, as well as organ, stem cell and tissue donation and transplantation
- As part of their work, NHS Blood and Transplant head up donor recruitment for blood, plasma and platelet donations
AIMS & OBJECTIVES
- Speak with the public to increase awareness of the importance of plasma donations, focusing on how plasma is used by the NHS to fight over 50 diseases
- Encourage plasma donation sign-ups with interested members of the public
EXECUTION
- Two-day informational event at Birmingham New Street Station
- NHS Blood and Transplant staff on site with promotional banners and informational materials, providing information on plasma donation and facilitating plasma donation registration
RESULTS
- Increased awareness amongst the public about the need for plasma donations
- NHS Blood and Transplant engaged with almost 100 people during the 2-day event
- 18 new plasma donation registrations achieved
“We are still in the education phase with our campaign as plasma hadn’t been collected in England for over 20 years before the covid-19 pandemic hit. So, the impressions we can make on people by having a presence at Birmingham New Street Station and being able to answer questions and educate people is just as important to us as the registrations. We would definitely like to revisit next year and continue our campaign to educate on plasma donation and encourage new sign-ups!”
