SpaceandPeople and Network Rail Brought Three Orchestra Groups To Birmingham New Street Station Over Summer 2023
Over Summer 2023, we have worked with Network Rail to provide local musical groups the opportunity to perform within Birmingham New Street station. Our Activate! programme with Network Rail provides not-for-profit organisations with free space within Network Rail stations to promote their cause and engage with the public.
Birmingham New Street’s first musical performance was courtesy of Nottingham Music Hub‘s Robin Hood Orchestra! The charity provides exciting musical opportunities for Nottingham city children. Nottingham Music Service is also part of a collaborative effort to break down barriers to musical education for children with additional needs.

The second musical performance over the Summer was from The Rusty Player’s Orchestra which is part of The People’s Orchestra charity. The Rusty Player’s Orchestra consists of musicians who are looking to get back into playing their instruments and performing. The orchestra performed a flash mob of Thriller which was thoroughly enjoyed by passengers at the station.

The final orchestra performance was from The National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. Founded in 1948, the orchestra has evolved from a youth training orchestra into an inclusive teenage music community. Their Birmingham New Street performance provided the perfect opportunity to show off their skills and promote their upcoming concerts.
